Agricultural experiments at Stoors Connecticut show mixing corn with soybeans in ensilage raises yield by about one ton per acre of green forage or 500 pounds of dry matter versus corn alone. Extra protein equals 300 pounds of 40 percent cotton seed meal per acre. Best results come from one corn stalk to three beans per twelve inches. Drilling beats interplanting. Eight varieties tested. top variety is stiff stemmed and tall with pods two thirds filled when corn is ready to cut.
