Kossuth County Home Destroyed by Fire
Fire of unknown origin destroyed the Kossuth county home located two and a half miles southwest of Algona at about noon Sunday. The three story 24 room frame building housed 15 inmates plus caretakers Mr and Mrs Fred Parks. Some bed fast patients were removed safely. Most first floor furniture and some second floor furnishings saved. Winds from the northwest fanned the blaze as Algona firefighters, hampered by a weak water supply, ran out of water after exhausting 150 gallons on the tank. They planned to switch to a 500 gallon farm supply, but the fire gained momentum and became uncontrollable.
