County High School Baseball Tourney Opens Thursday
The County High School Baseball Tournament begins Thursday at 4 pm with Fenton versus Lakota in the first round. Other Friday and weekend games include Lone Rock against Rake at 9 am, Burt facing the Fenton/Dakota winner at 9 pm, St. John's Bancroft versus Buffalo Center at 2 pm, and Titonka against Woden at 4 pm. Semifinals are Monday at 2 and 4 pm, with the final set for Wednesday at 4 pm.

Friday at Clinton and Charlene's class we played favorite games and made May baskets in art. Workman Hurt While Dismantling Freezer
Ike Harms of Buffalo Center sustained serious injuries last week while dismantling an old freezer unit. An acid burn burned his face and eyes, and inhalation burned his lungs. Harms is the father of Mrs. Wm. Kienitz and longtime resident.

Junior Legion Benefit Shoot Draws Large Local Crowd
A Sunday benefit shoot at Wayne Miller farm drew a large crowd of sportsmen from Forest City Wesley Burt St Benedict and Woden plus locals. One hundred seventeen squads participated and seven thousand five hundred birds were shot. The event was organized by the Legion and Conservation League with thanks to all helpers and to Miss Sharon Schutter who ran the refreshment stand.

Death of Mrs Jacob Thieben at 36 in Mason City
Mrs. Jacob Thieben, 36, died at a Mason City hospital last Saturday morning after months of illness. She had been treated at Buffalo Center for kidney ailments and complications, moved to Mason City two days before death. Survived by husband Jacob and her parents Ben and Mrs Smiens of Ackley, plus three brothers and a sister. Funeral Saturday with services in Thieben home and Ackley. burial in Ackley. The Methodist Market Day sale drew a large crowd Saturday with new and used cars, machinery, livestock, and furniture totaling 12133 in sales. Auctioneers L A Matern and W J Stewart led bidding from morning till around five with top items including Fraser at 2600 and Chevrolet at 2675, hay baler at 2500, funds benefiting the building fund and lunch served by the WSCs at the American Legion hall.
