Woden Girls Escape Injury in Car Wreck
Three Woden girls Anna Tjaden Mildred Peterson and Alice Kelleg escaped serious injuries when their car overturned after hitting a rut southeast of Woden Sunday about 1 AM. The Kellage vehicle was badly wrecked but all three were treated for minor injuries after attending a local event at Olona Lake.

Glasses Break As Rockwell Man Suffers Eye Cut

Final figures show 8 388 cribs containing 83 482 153 bushels sealed and 1 984 827 21 loaned. 237 cribs of 1937 ear corn 224 668 bushels and 80 cribs of 1937 shelled corn 67 836 bushels tied up with 166 726 71 in loans. Total 3 705 cribs sealed in county and 2 161 553 92 loaned on 3 774 666 bushels. About half resealed in fall 1938 as most had not been sealed prior.

Mason City Men In Fine Concert
A 26 member Mason City Chamber of Commerce chorus performed at the high school auditorium during the Parent Teacher meeting. The group includes business, professional, and farming men from Mason City and surroundings. They sing choruses, quartets, and solos without pay, preserving a long standing musical tradition. Roger Larson, a Titonka native, is a chorus member and the secretary of the chamber joined for two piano duets with the accompanist. The program was a rare musical treat for Titonka residents.

On April 26 at Mrs Eva Ahrend's home the Dean and Plum Creek Women’s clubs held a guest day with 53 attendees. Buffalo Ladies Earned Superior Rating at Burt County Fair
Buffalo Township Farm Bureau women won a Superior Rating for their booth at the county achievement day held in Burt. The event featured an excellent rating in the music memory contest where eleven papers were perfect among fifteen participants. Activities included community singing, panel discussions on farm women’s security, a breadmaking demonstration, a Gavitte folk dance, and a music song festival. Immanuel Lutheran church hosted the Hawk Eye Federation spring rally on April 30 drawing about 200 attendees. Rev Otto F Herder of Hanover Minn spoke on a heart searching sermon and the afternoon featured a business meeting led by Walter Zuehlke followed by hymns, a hymn history reading, and a scavenger hunt. A 5:30 supper was served by alumni and mothers, and the day concluded with a play titled Things Do Happen.

James Blaine Passes at 65 in Wesley
James Blaine, 66, died at his home Tuesday morning after a two week illness from a cold and complications. He leaves his aged father Thomas Blaine, his brother John Blaine of Wesley, another brother Thomas of Minnesota, and a sister Mrs Christianson of Algona. Funeral services were held Thursday at 1 pm at his home with burial in Evergreen Cemetery at Weasley.

Two Men Held on Extortion Charge
Algona-Otto V. Schreck 38 Emmetsburg and Amos Schreck 41 Des Moines appeared before Justice of Peace P. A. Dawson over the weekend bound over to the grand jury under $2,500 bond each. They were lodged in the county jail on malicious threats to extort. Amos Schreck was brought from Storm Lake to Buena Vista district court under similar charges. The arrests followed police reports that the brothers operated as the Milland Service and extorted cash by inflating sales after routine shop inspections.
