Walsh Apartment Raid Leads to Liquor Seizure

Sheriff signed a Monday search warrant on Nathaniel Walsh's Badge residence. Officials seized four quarts and thirteen pints of illegal liquor Walsh bottled for patrons. Walsh pleaded guilty, jailed in Algona, fined 150 dollars, then released to observe liquor-law compliance.

Alcohol charges prompt varied penalties in local court

Chris Olson of Thompson was arrested for drunkenness and fined $3 with $4 costs by Justice H. B. White. Roy Lee of Algona faced the same charge and received 30 days imprisonment suspended during good behavior. H. O. Brown state inspector aided arresting Dennis Pratt of Algona at Immersburg for a tail light violation, fined $1 with $2 costs in the same court.

Joseph Markl 87 Succumbs in Iowa Parish Funeral

Joseph Markl 87 died at his daughter Mrs Carl Watson’s home in Portland after seven years with the family. An Irish emigrant who settled near St Benedict, he lived there with wife and son until his death. Funeral services were held at St Benedict Catholic Church and burial followed in the church cemetery. Immediate family were at home. distant attendees included Lawrence Marks Hayward Minn John Markl Sioux City and Sister Anetta Dubuque.

Mrs Joe Johnson born Jennie Williams in Hast Friesland Germany November 17 1870. She immigrated to Amar and married Joe Johnson in September 1893. They had ten children surviving her. She died after Good Friday illness requiring surgery. last words to her daughter in law, “I’m going home.” Survived by husband ten children sisters and other relatives.

Pelicans Sighted Over Iowa Lake Region Mark Wet Weather Believed

A flock of eleven pelicans was seen over the Iowa lake region last week, a rarity in the past half century. Old settlers in Arnolds Park say pelicans are supposed to be forerunners of wet weather, making the sighting a novelty.

New School House Fund Passes In German Township Vote

A special election held Saturday afternoon in German township approved funds for a new Drety-Man schoolhouse by a 71 to 10 margin. The school board will set a date to begin construction so the building opens when school resumes next year if all proceeds as planned.

Denver couple visits Ball family friends from Wis to Colo

Dr and Mrs R C G Ball entertained Mr and Mrs Ray Crow of Denver Colorado from Sunday night until yesterday morning. Mrs Crow is an old friend of the Ball family and once worked at the Whitcomb Ball and Son farm southeast of town about twenty years ago. Crow previously resided in Monroe Wisconsin.

In Algona, Mrs Anton Jorgensen was found beaten and unconscious in her home last Friday. Dela and Don Cook forced a door, found the victim dying, and she died Monday morning. A broken safe with missing money and papers suggests foul play. Warren Dale, previously jailed for vagrancy, is held as a suspect. he had worked at the Jorgensen home two weeks before the crime. The town mourns and demands justice for the respected woman.

Miss Dorothy Ann Heitner wed Daniel Sutherland in a home ceremony at her parents’ residence with Rev. Herbert Van Vliet officiating. New AAA rulings ease hog limits for small producers

The Agriculture Adjustment Administration announces modifications to the corn hog production act adjustment contract. Small producers with low hog bases may grow hogs for home use without hog payments. Ubbe Ubben born August 14 1848 in Wustfries land Germany. He lived 84 years in the old country before migrating to America in 1882 with his family. He served as Elder and secretary of Ramsey Reformed Church for 18 years and died April 26 1935 at age 86 years 8 months 12 days leaving wife eight children and many grandchildren.

Brief History of Titonea High Grads Class of 1930

Blanche Buffington after graduation attended Waterloo business college then stayed at home with her mother. She married Leo Orthel and they live with her mother. They have a child. Dayle Craven went to Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis for a year then helped his father in the telephone business until enlisting in the CCC. He now works for Carpenter Paper Co. in Omaha. Louise Kramer finished her senior year in Woden, worked in the Woden telephone exchange, was assistant in the post office, and now works for C and D Grocery. Mabel Keuchenreuther worked in Buffalo Center's hotel, recently married a Garner man, and they live on a farm near Garner. Edwin Meyer lives with his parents in Woden area. his father runs a country church. Albert Missal graduated from Dunwoody in Minneapolis, returned to Thonka to run a radio shop, then worked in a radio shop in Algona before returning home. Leo Orthel went to California with his mother, returned to Titonka, ran Wilson Cafe, then bought a restaurant in Ceylon, Minn. He married Blanche Buffington. Hilda Pouelsen attended Waterloo business college, moved with parents to Rolfe, married Mr. Lea Struthers, and lives in Rolfe. Paterson remained home in Thonka and married Arthur Budlong in February. they farm southwest of town. Annabelle Sachau stays with her parents. Alice Sartor graduated from the Illinois College of Foot Surgery, works in Des Moines with Dr. Olson. John Stott stayed in Thonka, worked in his father's store, then as a truck driver for Wil Rickless. Arthur Rike remains at home helping with the farm.

Woden correspondent reports Louise Kramer suffered a fall while cleaning a window at the C and D Grocery. She pushed her hand through a candy case, cutting it in three places. clamps were needed to close the wounds. Her sister Clara had been helping in her absence.
