Safety Gear Trials for Iowa Farm Workers
The University of Iowa Institute of Agricultural Medicine will conduct trials to test the usefulness and acceptability of farm safety gear. Farm operators in Washington County will participate and record observations on goggles and respirators during tasks like combining, grinding, welding, haying, and chemical spraying. Eye injuries in the county number about 100 annually, and while several devices exist none are tailored to common farm use. The study seeks input to guide development of gear better suited for general farm labor.
