Bill Larson turned 73 last Friday as about a dozen local cronies visited to mark the day. They found him with a black eye and scraped face, claims of a stair fall met with skepticism as he had been in Algona that day. A card session provided the entertainment and a nice lunch was served.

Jury settles auto collision case in Kossuth court
In Kossuth district court last week a jury was selected to hear Isabelle Steward vs Ralph Thompson over a Burt area auto collision. The case settled out of court before testimony. A second suit by Merton Steward against Thompson was also settled with a judgment for 260 dollars and costs of 10.46. Potters case involved notes and an insurance negotiation. Jury members from Luverne, Ledyard, Algona, Bancroft, Whittemore, Lone Rock, Titonka, Burt, and Algona were listed. No new probate cases were docketed. James Finley of Algona was fined 5 dollars for improper passing.

Former Lakota Woman Suffers Paralytic Stroke
Mrs. Gott Neb Gutknecht of Spencer suffered a paralytic stroke. Her sister Mrs. Isenberger of FP. W. Batlin home was informed Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Gutknecht transported the patient from Lakota to Algona and then to Spencer. Mr. Gutknecht is a brother of August Gutknecht of Lakota.
Federated Clubs Hold Notable Meeting with Travel Talk
Members of the County Federation of Women's Clubs met Tuesday April 29 at the local Methodist church. Officers elected for the coming biennium were chair, Mrs. Jay Stone La Verne. vice chair, Mrs. A. M. Petersen Titonka. secretary, Mrs. G. F. Vogel Burt. treasurer, Mrs. George Johnson Plum Creek. Mrs. Kermit Larson Mason City. The program featured piano and vocal selections and a travelogue by Mrs. Odven Hogen highlighting Holland France Norway England and Germany with notes on sanitation culture and sights. Special music by high school performers and Phyllis Dougan on accordion accompanied the program. Mrs. C. H. Tomkins Garner spoke on Democracy in Making the Home She Hobby. Cancer plaques were on display. Hostess clubs included Mtonka Burt Dean Plum Creek and Union Mothers and Daughters.

The United States Defense Savings Bond and Postal Savings Stamps will be placed on sale in the Post Office on Thursday May 1 as part of the national effort to make America impregnable. Postmaster Lucy Newville announces plans are completed for this community along with thousands of others to do its part at the opening of the savings program. Postmaster General Frank Walker said local postmasters would be a real service to the country and thanked Treasury Secretary Morgenthau for past help and future cooperation. Bonds may be purchased May 1 or thereafter for 25 0 0, maturing in ten years at 25.00 value, with redemption after sixty days. Purchase limits cap at 5 000 per year per person. Denominations are 25 50 100 500 and 1000 sold for 75 percent of maturity value, ten year maturity. Savings stamps offered at 100 26e 1 91 and 5. Buyers of stamps over 10 cents receive a pocket album free. Thirty million albums are being prepared.

Funeral Held Sunday for Art Ogren in Lakota
Funeral services were held Sunday at the Presbyterian church for A. E. Ogren who died Friday after a week’s illness following a stroke. Born in Moline, Washington, he spent most of his life in Lakota and nearby. He and his son ran a service station on the town’s north edge. He was 62 years, 8 months, and 7 days old. Survived by wife Anna, a son Earl, a grandson Robert, sister Mrs. A. Winter, brother Albert Ogren of Algona, three nieces and many friends.
