Planting Flax: Avoid Deep Disking and Ensure Seedbed

County Extension Director A L Brown advises flax planting timing and techniques. Do not disk flax land too deeply on fallow corn ground. Flax needs a solid seedbed while rolling soybean stubble aids results. Use 35 pounds per acre for small seed Redwing and 3 pecks for larger seed varieties. If germination is low or seed is damaged, sow more. Also inspect electric brooders for fire risks due to shorts.
