Soybean potential grows in Kossuth County fields
Report from the Town Agricultural Experiment Station highlights soybeans as a versatile crop. They can be planted with corn for hogging down or silage, used for hay if cut early, or grown for seed to sow next year. Cracked beans outperform oil meal by about one third in dairy rations. Seeding rates range from three to five pounds per acre in corn, with higher yields from 30 to 45 pounds per acre for hay or seed when drilled in 20 inch rows. Low seed prices may boost soybean acreage in Kossuth County. Seed should be inoculated for best results.
