Iowa Lawmaker Proposes Radical High School Curriculum Overhaul
Des Moines reports Rep J P Gallagher seeks drastic reform to prune courses and abolish interscholastic athletics for under 10 000 population cities. He calls for mental entrance exams to state universities, retention of Latin and normal courses, and removal of agriculture and manual training to focus on fundamentals. He accuses current schools of cramming frills and producing unprepared graduates plus universities swelling with underqualified students.
