Cooperative Hiring Boosts Farm Income and Retention
The first year total income reached 3500 dollars with a three percent share for the hired man, yielding 105 dollars extra on top of 240 dollars regular pay. Averaged monthly, this was just under 29 dollars, about four dollars more than under the old system. Mr. Stafford, pleased with the scheme, considers raising the percentage and explains the incentive lies in farm income growth rather than net profit. The arrangement aims to keep capable workers longer by tying earnings to gross returns and harvest outcomes. Wallace's Farmer.
