Algona Obituary: Mrs John Goeders 85 Dies After Illness
Funeral services were held in Algona for Mrs. John Goeders 85 who died Saturday after a lingering illness. She was the wife of John Goeders founder of the Goeders store established in 1887 and run for more than 45 years in Algona. Mrs Goeders was born at sea aboard a voyage to the United States. The report notes flaxseed production reached 20.3 million bushels in 1939, up from 8.2 million in 1938.

School election to choose district officers next Monday
Buffalo Consolidated voters will elect a director to succeed Ernest P Hansen and a treasurer to replace Hidward Boyken whose terms expire. The director serves three years and the treasurer two. More Land Bought for Union Slough Game Refuge
A second condemnation hearing in Kossuth County authorized purchase of 43.1 additional acres from Metropolitan Life Insurance for the Union Slough migratory waterfowl refuge near Algona. The total 424.16 acres, at about 40 dollars per acre, completes the government’s intended tract as judges set the price at 1,724 dollars. The project, dating to 1934 and led by the Kossuth County Conservation League, aims to begin dam and dike construction after this acquisition.

Dinner honoring seventh AAA program at Methodist Church

Sample Census Blanks at Farm Bureau Office

Local Town Eyes Half Mill Tax for Band Support
In Titonka the Incorporated Town of Thn tanka seeks voter approval for a one half mill property tax to fund the town band at the March 26 election. A petition signed by 10 percent of last election’s voters was filed with the Town Clerk. If approved the levy would rise from about 61.365 mills to 62.866 mills, increasing a typical owner’s tax from 51.326 dollars to roughly 61.85 dollars, shifting upkeep costs from donations to taxpayers under mayor and town council control.
