County Extension Director Dean Barnes notes peak farm electricity use occurs in a 30 minute window around 6:00 PM on cold February evenings. Altman and Jebe predict Iowa farm demand will more than double in coming years, with growth outside the home including grain driers and pig brooder heating. Barnes says many farms will need wiring upgrades to handle higher peak loads and suggests planning upgrades for the next 15 years.
