Week of March 6 to 8 highlights public school events. Titonka faces Burt in a close basketball clash 27 to 26 after a fast-paced game. Junior and senior activities include plays, sewing projects, dress design, and plans for Des Moines trip. Also summarizes classwork across French, English, biology, geography and home economics with student achievements and campus notices.
Seneca high school girls basketball won the district tournament at Wesley gym with a 67 to 47 final over Gruver after a 20 win 2 loss season. The team advances to the state tournament in Des Moines March 13 14 and 15.
Rudolph Hildman of Des Moines wed Lenora Bennet of Coffeeville Iowa on February 24 at 7 30 p m at St Ambrose cathedral Des Moines The groom serves as secretary for the Arnold Ballroom Company and the couple will reside in Des Moines A post nuptial shower was held at the John Richter home with about thirty five neighbors and relatives in attendance

The Laula R Wingerts move to a newly purchased farm near Buffalo Center, Clare Wingerts to the former Clare Wingerts farm, Frank Fox family of Cambria Iowa to the Clare Wingerts farm, Leo Waldschmidts relocate near Kort Dodge to operate a gas station and store, Olson family of Kanawha to the Waldschmidt farm, Bernard McGuires to a farm near Titonka, John Blaines to Corwith, Carl Starquists to the former Blaines farm, Jay Carlsons to the Starquists farm, and John Puttstucks who farmed near Buffalo Center have moved to the Wesley area.
Woden Farm Bureau met Friday afternoon at Mrs. Jewell Johnson home. New officers elected for the coming year include Mrs. Il Johnson as leader Mrs. Robert Neiman as assistant and Mrs. W L Tin dall as cooperator. The next meeting is set for March 7 at Mrs. A R Guernsey home with a music lesson.
Woden Presbyterian church held a farewell party for Mr and Mrs Ben Atzen and Mr and Mrs Luther Larson Wednesday evening in the church parlors. A musical program accompanied the gift presentation as both families prepare to move to Britt.
In Decorah two sisters Hart Marion and Marcella Mayer were struck by cars within the last year. Their grandfather was killed 13 months ago when an automobile struck him.
First graders made tulips and pussy willows and placed them above the blackboard. They told stories about pictures hung in their classroom, sharing observations and imagination.
Judge G W Stillman granted a divorce to Gayle I Basler of Wesley from Charles M Basler for cruel and inhuman treatment. Gayle also won permanent custody of her minor son Gary, retained ownership of the Wesley News World, and resumed her maiden name Gayle I Gillespie. New cases filed include Albert H Dettering v Henry Zelmot in replevin. Justice Della Walter fined several locals for infractions, including Joseph Grady five dollars for failed stop, Jess Riddle ten dollars plus two dollars eighty‑five cents costs for intoxication, John Besth five dollars for improper passing, Ina Fickel for drunkenness, George Lee ten dollars plus three dollars forty‑five cents costs for intoxication. Ostwinkle performed first marriage of William Klimek and Anne Charrett. Probate estates opened for Augusta Mittag and Charles Gellenfeld.

The Algona Congregational church hosts a county federation gathering with hosts from Algona, Luverne, Cresco and Four Corneg clubs. A 100 percent in last fall’s election is honored. Beginning Monday March 10 for ten weeks, kindergarten will run mornings from 9 to 11 60 for children who turn five by April 1 and will start first grade next fall. Rural riders may ride to a school with noon transportation home arranged by parents. Parents should contact the superintendent for enrollment forms. Miss Gladys Groom leads the project with help from the Senior Home Economics Class.

A building committee led by J A Raney Algona Charles Quinn Bancroft and Alex Bonnastetter West Bend will report March 13 on constructing a new 44H club barn at the Kossuth fairgrounds to house about 106 calves. The barn 48 by 80 feet frame construction raises total cattle capacity to about 50 head with existing barns. Secretary F.E. Miss Mario Meinders and Miss Iola Meinders were honored at a surprise double shower at the Henry Meinders home on February 27. Guests shared gifts and a meal with many friends and relatives as they celebrate upcoming marriages to Earl Newbring and Richard Gray.
Dick Baade born July 1, 1907 at Buffalo Center Iowa moved to Jossuth and later Britt Hancock County farmed baptized Lutheran. He married Elizabeth Oudekerk October 24 1938. He died February 22 1939 in Algona hospital at 10:20 am survived by wife three children mother three sisters and a brother. Funeral at Ostfriesland Christian Reformed Church with Rev Kuizma officiating. Burial in church cemetery.
Mrs Sarah F Swango born December 14, 1867 in Shelby County Indiana died February 28 1941 at her daughter Mrs J Brown's home. Married Thomas H Swango October 3 1889 in Clinton Illinois. Survived by son Harry T Swango daughter C J Brown four grandchildren. Funeral March 2 at Swan Funeral Home with Henry Elecher in charge. Buried Buffalo Township Cemetery.
The ordinance requires all connections to the city water main to be copper from curb stop to meter and approved by the water manager before covering. It repeals conflicting provisions and changes the setback in ordinance No 43 from 20 feet to 14 feet. The ordinance takes effect after passage and publication. Passed March 1941 by mayor W F Hamstreet, town clerk Florence J Reasger.
Wendell Miller at a Nashua store reportedly triggered a string of battery explosions after disposing of old flashlights. The incident caused concern about a sudden blast and potential danger from discarded batteries.
Algona reports a rush of volunteers to meet the current nine man call with a list of up to twenty. Five still must pass physicals, but failure rates are low. Inductees slated for Saturday include Harm Johnson, Alka, Wessels, Wrager, Lloyd, Neurith, Hirsch, Strosbel, and Struecker with a replacement list of volunteers led by Raney, Welshaar, Hildman, Young, and others. They head to Des Moines for exams and then Fort Snelling for six weeks training before deployment.
Mrs Chester Newell of Fenton was injured when her car collided with the Fra Schmidt car at an intersection south of Lone Rock. The crash occurred about 3 45 pm Thursday, sending the Newell vehicle into a ditch and crushing the side near a telephone pole while the Schmidt car sustained only front-end damage.
