Mary Worths Family Boar Tests Show Important Facts
The Iowa Swine Producers Association sponsored boar testing near Ames reveals three key findings. On farm testing can identify excellent breeding lines and one breeder already did so. Meat-type lines require feeding for accurate results, as overfat lines appeared in testing. A top boar weighed 240 pounds at 5 months with 1.1 inches back fat at 200 pounds and a feed conversion of 300 pounds feed per 100 pounds gain. The station aims for full scale operation starting April 1 1956.
