The Titonka School reports busy week across grades with homemaking, biology crayfish studies, English unit on prose, and tests. Freshmen and underclassmen engage in spelling, math, and art projects, while seniors study the Victorian period and juniors Dickens.
Pastor Snuttjer leads morning worship at 10 with topic Jesus Teaches Forgive. Evening service at 8 and a 7:30 young people meeting. Catechism classes Saturday 10, Wednesday 8. Choir rehearsal Wednesday 8 30. Offering Sunday supports the Emergency Fund for war damaged areas. cites Matthew 6:14 18 and notes 126,000,000 clothing need and 395 churches with only five undamaged.

A Buffalo Consolidated district school election is planned for March 12 with incumbents George Bonacker and Oscar Norland seeking re election alongside challengers R L Krantz and Carl F Callies for terms. Wm Stenzel resigns to move to a farm near Burt. filing closes March 2 at noon. Election will be held at the schoolhouse from noon to 7 pm with Edward Boyken as secretary and E P Hansen and Pete Beenken as judges. Voters may obtain nominating papers and secure signs from the secretary.
Elliott Bowker born 1861 in Fitzwilliam New Hampshire died in Garner last week. Funeral at Bohn Funeral Home Garner with Rev F Broberg officiating. Burial at Britt, longtime Bowker home area. Survived by Mila wife, Edna daughter, Ethel daughter, two grandchildren Richard and Robert Downs, brother Daniel, sister Mrs Charles Akny.
Divine worship service at 11 am and Sunday school at 10 am. Brotherhood meets Thursday evening March 1. Ladies aid and missionary society meet next Tuesday afternoon March 6. Lenten services held Wednesday evening. Special offering for American missions. Library books to be returned by March 6. Legumes seem best able to use Forks Phosphate satisfactorily.
A Friday spelling bee in school district No 5 Bingham township saw Duane Boyken take first prize and Muriel Schutter finish second. The winners from Bingham No 9 continue a strong school record, with the two top finishers set to enter the county spelling contest in Garner later.
Mr and Mrs Aggo Jenssen of Buffalo Center celebrate their Golden Wedding Anniversary on March 6. Open house will run from 2 to 4 o'clock. All friends are cordially invited to call.
A Wednesday morning fire destroyed three main street structures in Fenton: the Lester Weisbrod Implement Co, the Schulte Cafe, and the Fred Boyken Tavern and Cafe. Firefighters from Fenton and Whittemore saved the nearby Arnold Krause store, with total losses around 50,000. The brick replacement will follow as soon as materials are available. no empty buildings remain for temporary reopening.
Mr and Mrs Art Hench traveled to Mason City on Tuesday to visit Richard who had a brief pneumonia episode and was returned home for treatment. Mrs Hench remained at the hospital for sinus ailment treatment.
Mr and Mrs Charles Phelps observed their golden wedding anniversary with dinner and open house at their farm west of Titonica. Their 1895 Burt Presbyterian Church wedding united Agnes Stow as bridesmaid. they raised four children and endured Mr Phelps eye injuries leading to total blindness. Grandchildren and great grandchildren are noted. Willis serves as a Tremonton Utah minister.
The Kossuth County Red Cross war fund and membership drive totals seventeen thousand dollars, announced last week. The drive opens March 5 and runs to March 11 with quotas set for towns and townships.
United Service Women of America will hold a regular meeting on Friday March 2 at the American Legion rooms. All members and eligible guests are urged to attend. Elections of officers will be held with Mrs. Wm Schram Mrs. Clark and Mrs. Hamstreet to serve.
The Titanics girls beat Ledyard 38 to 29 at Tyke gym last Friday evening. Adamson led Tyke with 22 points and Koestler topped Ledyard with 15 as the first half stood 27-10.
Twenty young men from Kossuth County left Sunday for induction into the armed forces. Names include Raymond George, Fred George Bannart, Harold James Lampe, Hubert Doyle Bancroft, Ralph M Gengler, Hugh George Lickteig, Joe Gibson Sweat City, and others from Algona, Titonka, Irvington, Corwith, West Bend, and more.
Pastor W L Patterson leads Sunday School at 10 am and worship at 11 am with a 4 pm Young People meeting. Doan Fellowship Sunday 8 pm at the Buffington home. pot luck lunch. Social hour hosted by Mrs Dale Struthers and Mrs Harvey Larson after worship. Churches seek to raise 25 million dollars for overseas and domestic relief, with Titanka 892 and Dean 203 assigned and due by March 4.
Rev William plans for English divine services next Sunday at 10 30 with Sunday school and Bible study at 9530. Luther League holds devotions and a business meeting at 8 p m. Ladies Aid and Mission Society meet Thursday March 1 at 1 30. Lenten services every Wednesday at 8 with a mission offering.
Seventy three Kossuth County men depart for Jefferson Barracks Missouri for pre induction physicals. This second group for the month includes Harold Patrick Gatton and many others from Algona Bancroft Elmore Titonka Swea City Burt and surrounding towns as listed by the Selective Service Board.
Choir rehearsal occurs every Wednesday evening after services. Confirmation class meets on Saturdays, but details are incomplete.
