Pioneer J Mann Dies in Burt After Long Illness
Melbourne J Mann prominent Kossuth county resident and Burt booster died Friday morning after four months of heart trouble. Born in 1857 in Clinton County New York, he moved to Iowa as a child, married Ada Caulking in 1880, and built a 120 acre farm before later farming, running a livery, garage, and serving as director of Burt Telephone Co. He supported many local interests and was active in Kossuth lodge 540 A F & A M and Eastern Star, with Presbyterian worship in Burt. Funeral services were held Sunday at his home and church with Masonic burial rites.
