Poultry Outlook Mixed As Demand Cites High Red Meat Prices
Iowa State College economist Tom Rackham reports broiler production through April up 10 percent from 1956 and through August up 20 percent over the first three quarters of 1957. Prices should stay strong with continued cheap feeds and red meat rally boosting poultry demand. Turkey hatchings lag last year, but prices may rise modestly into year's end as storage stocks shrink and consumer demand shifts toward poultry.
