Feeding Plan Matches Marketing Time for Pigs
County Extension Director A L Brown says pigs fed on pasture should receive full grain and supplements until they reach 60 to 70 pounds. Early furrowed pigs weighing 200 to 225 pounds by October 1 should be fed all grain and supplements they can eat even on good pasture. Later furrowed pigs reaching 60 to 70 pounds do well on 2 to 3 pounds of grain daily per hundred pounds of weight, with full feeding optional if feeds are plentiful. full feeding slows growth but improves pasture use and final yield.

Fight Gad Fly Now For Iowa Sheep Producers
Extension veterinarian K W Stouder of Iowa State College notes gad fly damages sheep yearly. He recommends a salt box with pine tar on the lid to smear nostrils as sheep lick salt. Holes in a hinged lid allow tar to repellently coat nostrils, reducing larval entry and winter symptoms. Death can follow if unprotected.
