Buffalo Township and German Township results show Rickless heavily defeating Hargreaves of Algona for Kossuth County sheriff. Gov candidates and local officials listed. nurses graduate Goldie Hofbauer noted. weather rain expected after a dry spell.
Ernest and Drie Petersen, W. P. Stenzel, and Laura Haber fished at Clear Lake Sunday. The Ramsay Refumed Church plans its annual Sunday School picnic for June 12 at Kobus Tjaden’s farm. The day includes races, contests, tug of war, baseball, and a car race. 11:00 a.m. gathering, refreshments by Sunday School faculty, and a noon picnic lunch.
Mr and Mrs A O Milbrandt and Mrs R S Lelbrandt with Charlie Lelbrandt of Elmore traveled to Riceville last Wednesday for the funeral of the one year old child of Mr and Mrs Lawrence Mielitz who died after being run over by a backing car. Funeral services were held at Riceville Methodist church on Wednesday afternoon. The child was a second cousin to A O Milbrandt.
Dan Turner and Gov Herring lead in county nominations with Turner ahead of Calflesh by 12 000 votes. Cross runs strong for lieutenant governor, Patterson trails by about 7 000. Hargreaves defeats Ricklefs for sheriff, Pearson tops Windell for treasurer, Baum faces Heiken in the fifth district.
The Farmers Elevator Company, under Fred Hagen, reports net earnings of 1873.74 after depreciation and bad debts, with a 160 percent volume increase from the previous year and only slight expense rise. Management notes low expense percent, enabling fair pricing and profit. Stockholders rallied, forecast dividends and favorable commodity pricing with patronage. 411 Club Rally June 14. County 4 H club girls hold annual rally at Call State Park Algona next Thursday June 14 with contests in taranaon and club music exhibits. Miss Florence Forbest of State College at Ames will attend as state club leader and speaker.
New civil actions filed last week include Gertle Boehm versus W F Bashm for guardianship, Metropolitan Site Insurance Co. versus G A Christensen et al for foreclosure, Metropolitan Title Co. versus H W Schmidt et al for foreclosure, Equitable Life vs Warner Smith et al for foreclosure, Arthur A. Dwyer vs Charlottes Meyer for guardianship, Mima Gall versus Wm Soll for divorce, and Truet & Savings Bank of Estherville versus C F Strang for date.
Titonka group returns from northern Minnesota trip with a 29 pound muskie landed by E A Hansen of Rudd. The party included A M Petersen Tom Young H B Robbenhouse Ernesty Hangen and Roland Shaw. They fished Vermillion Lake near Cook and Winnie Lake Winnibigoshish before heading home with over a hundred walleyes.
The Indians routed Lakota 12 to 2, showing heavy hitting and sharp fielding. Box scores list Titanka Hagen Woods Bath Callies Boyken Kennedy and Wessels among players. Lakota’s Montgomery Ogren Hatten Sparks Dontra and Wessels also appeared. The Indians push a winning streak and host Wade in their next home game with University of Town star Man slated to pitch and Ed Boyken returning from college play.
A June 6 1984 town council meeting with all members present approved bills for payment including Hansen Budlong calls Swalve hauling and cleaning. The sewer committee was directed to buy intake caps. Meeting adjourned with town clerk WM Boyken noting attendance. Auxiliary members later attended county gathering in Algona and were served tea. A local Ford coupe from Pitonka era was dismantled for residents to sleep in pearls.
The past week saw ten marriage licenses issued across several towns including LaVerne, Blue Earth, Pocahontas, Bancroft, Lone Rock, Buffalo Center, Al gona, Vinton, Algona, and more. William Schroeder aged 81 died at his Lakota Iowa home less than two days after his wife's death. Born in Germany, he settled in Ramsey in 1882 with Marie Baumann, helped form Lakota, joined Lutheran church, and contributed to education and spiritual life.
Mrs J C Newville has been appointed postmistress at Titonka for a four year term beginning on commission from the President. Her nomination was confirmed by the Senate and bond sent to Washington. She is expected to assume office later this month.

A May 26 wedding at the Christian Reformed church united Miss Anna McBoer with Clarence O. Waidelich of Minneapolis in a single ring ceremony. Attended by Bernice DeBoer and Albert Hitler, the couple’s reception followed, with plans for a Minneapolis home after June 4. Calinty Superintendent and Mrs Shivtey vacationed at Lake Okoboji while Mrs Schwart of Tonka tended the Superintendent's office. L McDonald visited Mana to inspect a new hemp mill and plans to persuade farmers to grow hemp next year as a profitable crop. Minnesota led hemp growth this year with Kentucky Wisconsin and Windls following. Katherine Van Ness returned from Onawa and was elected to the primary department of the Town Walls Schools.
Joseph Cosgrove of Algona dies at 72 after a four year illness. Born in Ontario August 28 1861, he moved with family to Wesley then Algona, worked in grading contracting, and served as school board president, water and streets official. Survived by wife Emma and four children, plus siblings, with funeral held May 31 and burial in Algona cemetery.
The Monitor notes the Burt post master second examination will not be under the Civil Services Act but the executive order issued by the President last year.
