Brave Jersey Coast Lifesavers Rescue Deep Winter Storm Crew
A 1980 New Jersey life saving crew battled a furious February storm along the Atlantic coast. Keeper Valentine and Surfman Van Brunt led rescues at four stations aiding schooners E G Babcock and Stephen Herding, plus the brig Augustina, with thirty plus rescued and one captain dead aboard the brig. The ordeal showcased grit, endurance, and expert use of breeches buoy and beach apparatus under extreme seas and drifting wreckage.
