Clara Walker defeats Dooley to win the county recorder post. The race highlights a Democratic victory in local offices as Kraschel is a gubernatorial candidate, Gillette wins lieutenant governor, Zerfass runs well locally but falls short statewide. Frank Murray secures the agriculture secretary contest, with Ed Breen elected to Congress and Bleich listed among unopposed Kinsey Cogley Van Allen Winkel as unopposed in the legislature.
In the Democratic ticket race, coroner contenders Dr. T J Hagan Bancroft Dr Meyer Algona and Dr Meyer are nearly tied, each hovering around one third of the vote and short of the 45 percent needed to secure a convention nomination. The county slate features numerous unopposed figures and wide margins elsewhere.

More than 820 people attended the second annual Kossuth County 4 H livestock and crops banquet at Algona High School gym. C A Phillips and Fay J Meade were emcees. Rev E K Nelson gave the invocation. Albert Schipull outlined the 1942 fair role for 4 H clubs. films were shown and 4 H members performed stunts. Phil Merriam won a United States War Bond for impersonating Hitler. M A Aasgaard entertained as master magician.
Wesley city Lions Club luncheon at Reno Hotel with 16 members and 2 guests Paul Priberg and A M Lease. J P Studer spoke on price control and benefits. Club voted to clean up at power house park and city park by the public school. Band concert committee led by B Loehig announced first of ten concerts on June 17 with M R Page as instructor and leader. Next meeting scheduled for June 10.
Titonka defeated Bancroft 3 to 2 in a Sunday ball game. Algona will visit next Sunday while Bancroft travels to Wesley. Lone Rock beat Wesley 8 to 2. St. Joe beat Armstrong 5 to 3. A convention ticket issue and county supervisor results are noted on this page.
Pvt Art W Boyken writes from Ft Benjamin Harrison Indiana about basic training finished, hikes and mud courses, meals planned by a dietician, company and squad layout, and a six week finance course. He notes many recruits from Texas and California, a large barracks building, and expectations of transfer after training.
Pigs vaccinated early can boost marketable output and help meet wartime pork production goals. Veterinarians recommend vaccination before weaning or 7 to 10 days after. Early vaccination makes pigs easier to handle and reduces serum needed.
The North Iowa Guernsey District No 5 counties will hold a judging school and field day on June 16 at the Brown Woodside dairy farm south of Algona. Hosts Mr and Mrs Loren J Brown welcome Guernsey breeders from Butler to Wright counties for discussions of their problems with outside speakers in attendance.
Funeral services for C. J. Sherman 82 longtime Wesley resident who died May 30 1942 after a long illness were held June 1 at St. Josephs Church. Born October 31 1858 in Galena Illinois he was an Iowa pioneer who settled near Williams in 1885 and later moved to Wesley. Surviving children include John Henry Louise Gilson Clara Bruns Mae Irene and Roy with 87 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He helped organize the Exchange State Bank of Wesley and the Farmers Cooperative Society and served as president of both. Burial was at St Josephs Cemetery.
In Algona district and justice courts two new district court cases were filed this week, Fenton Home Oil Company versus Ben Schmidt and Mrs E McGardner versus Clarence Gardner with a writ of attachment. One probate case appears on the docket, the estate of J P Thilges.
The main street grading from Hamilton Hatchery corner to the north end is nearly finished with work in the French Schutter block underway. State supervision will oversee the street from railroad tracks to the north end once completed. A light oil or blacktop coat will follow, then a heavier coat with pea gravel to create a dust free, non tracking surface. Highway 226 access from the east to the Hamilton Hatchery corner may shift via the depot crossing once state improvements occur. Local boosters expect widening bridges and southward paving on 226, alongside main street and south highway upgrades, signaling hoped for progress stalled only by wartime conditions.
Clerks will be in Titanica Tuesday afternoon to process canning sugar ration applications. About 80 people queued, and with limited notice many applicants could not be served. Next Wednesday from 8 am until all who come are served, rationing will continue for those who missed this week.
Lawrence Hildman youngest son of Mr and Mrs Ed Hildman underwent amputation of the little finger of his right hand at Mercy hospital Fort Dodge Tuesday morning due to an injury last November while unloading lumber. He returned home Thursday morning with Father Linus Eisenbacher who visited the family.
The Kossuth tire rationing board has received its June quota including 12 passenger and motorcycle tires 84 retreads and 28 tubes for the first group 71 truck tires 107 retreads and 91 tubes for the second group which will regulate local allocations.
W A Cosgrove nominated by Democrats for Supervisor in the district by 258 to 211 for Young and 95 for Sleper. W A Schram nominated by Republicans by 270 votes with 116 for Skow and 70 for Oesterraicher. Tabulation covers six townships in the district.

The next meeting will be at Drusilla Hansen's home with Marietta Norland as reporter.

Hickenlooper defeats Miller for Governor by a wide margin. Secretary of State contest open as six candidates split the vote. John Ford leads among them. Bagley and Linn win statewide posts. Rankin and Gilchrist secure nominations in key races. No county contests. several incumbents confirmed. Supervisor results reported elsewhere.
Donovan Andrews was awarded a $300 Lane-Wells scholarship from Town State College in a honors banquet. He will use the funds in his senior year, receiving $100 now and $100 at three and six month intervals, on the condition he remains enrolled at the college.
