Batt son of Mr and Mrs Bul Batt who was lost while serving in France were held at the Methodist church in Burt Wednesday afternoon with Bilder BE G Hunsk er in charge Burial was in Hast Lawn cemetery at Algona A large delegation of American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars members from Titonka attended Pallbearers were six service men from Titonka who attended high school here when Dick did Richard W Batt was born at Swea City on September 26 1924 He spent most of his life in Titonka attending school there and going from here when he entered the service He lost his life while serving in France on September 25 1944 He lacked one day of being 20 years of age The Burt family now lives at Burt.

Reverend Roskamp Addresses Lions Club on India Customs
Rev. A. Roskamp pastor of Ramsey Reformed church spoke at the Lions Club last Thursday on India caste social and religious customs learned during his wartime service as chaplain. The luncheon was at Schutter Cafe with a meeting at the Methodist church basement. The club plans a June picnic and named a committee to nominate officers for the coming year.

Rainfall Eases Weekend in Titonka Area

Beaver Dams Troubles Drainage Ditches In County
Supervisors report beaver dams causing trouble in drainage ditches especially in the Wesley area. A dam four miles southwest of Wesley held water four feet deep while downstream was shallow. Beavers cut trees and craft dams, then rebuild after dynamite blows. Images by Supervisor Schram show the dam blown last week. Louis Bartlett and son Arthur saw a large beaver in the river near Burt last year. The beavers are a real nuisance to drainage work.

Virgil Roach Burned In Farm Tractor Fire At Budlong Farm
Virgil Roach suffered burns to his ear and the side of his face and head Tuesday afternoon when the tractor he operated at the Jay Budlong farm on the town's south edge caught fire. He drove the tractor away from buildings to save them, gave the alarm, and firefighters arrived. a hand extinguisher sufficed and water was not used.

Work on New 226 Highway Began Last Week
Work on the new highway 226 began last week as scheduled at a point two miles south of Titonka where Burt road crosses the new road. A lot of material has been hauled and placed along the sides. The base and top coat will raise the road about eight inches. Traffic is detoured over old 226. Weather permitting the project should finish by mid August.

Friendship Girls Club meets with Jane Amesbury
The Friendship Girls Club gathered May 25 at 2 o clock at Jane Amesbury's home with ten members present and Princia Stockwell visiting. The group discussed Bible passages Luke 2 1 29 and Matthew 25 34 40, explored Indians and Bible translation by James Eyans, and reviewed methods like drums and pictive writing. Funeral services for George Hildman who died in an auto accident Friday about 5 30 p m one mile west of Wesley were held at St Josephs Catholic church with Father Klein. Hildman born Nov 19 1878 in West Brooklyn Ill came to Iowa in 1900 married Sophia Wirth Oct 9 1908 and lived on a Wesley area farm. Survived by spouse eight children four daughters and four sons 14 grandchildren four brothers and four sisters. Burial at St Josephs cemetery with six nephews as pallbearers.
