Green Lot Feeding Increases Carrying Capacity For Cattle
Iowa State College agronomist J. M. Scholl says dairy farmers show interest in green lot feeding. Research data are meager but indicate little difference in daily gains and milk production versus good grazing. Carrying capacity rises when forage is fed green, making it suited for dairy farms with limited cropland. Pea vines from garden rows can mulch vegetables like tomatoes and cucumbers.
