Cattlemen urged to sell cows now warn of market glut

Extension economist Fran cis Kutish of Iowa State University says this is a mighty good time for cattlemen to replace old cows with heifers. Cull cow prices are high versus slaughter prices, and packers’ receipts are down. He foresees a seasonal decline in cow values and warns against selling old cows soon. In fed cattle, slaughter receipts should stay near 1959 levels, but a late year glut could occur if feeders delay sales in hopes of higher prices.
