Lemke Promises Are Pure and Purely Political Warning
ashington,-Sooner or later the sham in a candidate shows up during a campaign. Lemke, North Dakota, on the Union party ticket, is labeled a fraud for courting labor and promising liberal ideas. The column argues Lemke seeks the vice presidency, not the presidency, and critiques his appeal to the public for casual access and personal contact as incompatible with the presidency. It reviews AAA, civil service reforms, and Roosevelt era civil service policies, praising administrative shifts while criticizing political opposition and speculative promises to farmers. The piece closes reflecting on civil service merit and party tactics in the broader political landscape.
