Schimmel Family Reunion at Call Park Algona

A Schimmel family reunion was held at Call State Park in Algona on Saturday. Attendees included Mr. and Mrs. Carl Schimmel and three children of Blue Earth Minnesota, Jack Schimmel and family of Algona, Mr. and Mrs. Francis Hill and two children, Mr. and Mrs. H. Hill of Racine Wisconsin, Mr. and Mrs. George Schimmel, Dick Schimmel and Dorothy, the George Ward and Ben Bingham families, and Mr. and Mrs. Art Neubring of Wesley.

Algona Police Ouster Upheld by Dist Court

Judge Fred M. Hudson of Kossuth County upheld Algona city council in refusing to reinstate former police chief H. A. Van Alstyne. Van Alstyne’s appeal invoked the soldier preference law. Testimony heard. H. B. White represented the plaintiff and J. D. Lowe the city.

American Legion and Auxiliary News Meeting Adjourned

National holiday reduced attendance forces adjournment of the monthly Legion and Auxiliary meeting to Thursday evening at Esther Brean's home. Newly elected officers plan installation. Birthday meeting features a large cake served by past presidents. Orchards Established in 19 Iowa Counties

The Horticultural Extension Service at Iowa State College reports 79 demonstration orchards in 19 counties to show practical home orchard sizes for farms. Most new last year or this year, these orchards include 10–15 apple trees and several fruit types with Jonathan, Delicious, Grimes, Golden Delicious, Edgewood grafted on hardy stocks. Farm Bureau Insurance Members Banquet Scheduled

Over 200 Farm Bureau Insurance Co members and families expected at a banquet for the Farm Bureau Federation to be held Thursday evening in Bancroft Catholic church basement. Iowa State Fair Schedule Changes for 1939

Iowa officials announce a nine night eight day schedule for the 1939 Iowa State Fair opening August 24 and ending September 1. The event adds a rodeo headline for opening nights with fireworks and an open air circus. A new Sunday program introduces the musical extravaganza Show of a Century running through closing night with a 200 cast and elaborate scenery. Secretary A R Corey says it will be the largest night show yet and aims to boost attendance.

Mrs Godfredsen dies at 91 after long illness

Funeral services were held for Mrs Jensins Godfredsen who died Wednesday night after a long illness leaving her bedfast for 16 years. Born in Langeland Denmark on April 6 1848 she came to the United States in 1984 and later lived near Goldfield before moving to Montka. She is survived by a daughter Lena of Titonka four stepchildren a sister and several grandchildren including Wilbur Harold and Ernest Godfredsen.

Bingham Booster Club Holds Friday Meeting Minutes

The Bingham 4 H girls met at Margreete and Anna Traden Home. President Lorraine Guernsey led the session with roll call and a discussion of convention expenses. Des Moines reports the third annual National Tall Corn Contest at the Iowa State Fair in August offering 250 dollars for the tallest stalks. County club livestock tour announced for Friday

County Agent A L Brown announces a club livestock tour Friday July 7 starting at ten oclock at the Delbert Hanna farm south of Lonenick. Heifner Family Reunion Draws Ninety Descendants
