Farm plan study grows opposition to price controls
The American Farm Bureau Federation weighs a total abandonment of farm price and crop controls. Edward A. O Nea l says a better program than the AAA is being sought. Subscriptions favoring market-determined prices rise in the North and Northwest while Southern growers back tight controls if prices fall. A 10 year period of good prices is predicted at levels just below present. Apple outlook remains favorable amid late spring frost, with the 1947 strawberry crop up nearly fourfold from 1846 but below average. Peach crops in 10 southern states may top 25 million bushels, a new record, while California sweet cherries total 29 000 tons, down 15 percent from last year but above the 1938 44 average. California plums run 92 000 tons, slightly below 1946.
