Algona Hotel Robbery: Night Clerk Slugged and Robbed
An armed bandit robbed the unmasked Frank Springman, a one armed night clerk at the Hotel Algona, at 3:00 AM, slugged him and escaped with 200 dollars. Springman, who has a past record, was alone in the lobby when the middle aged gunman in dark glasses forced him toward the dining room and struck him with the pistol butt. He sustained multiple head wounds requiring stitches after an Algona physician treated him.

Four Hundred Attend Annual Farm Bureau Picnic
About 400 people gathered at the Kossuth fair grounds for the annual Farm Bureau picnic and first sports festival held Tuesday. V. Vaniman of Chicago, field director of the American Farm Bureau Federation, gave the afternoon address. Prizes were awarded in events including sprints, dashes, high and broad jumps, shot put, baseball throws, relay races, and tug of war. Mr. and Mrs. C. Scharlach of Algona were named the coldest Farm Bureau members present.

Woden Farmers Society Holds Annual Meeting
The Woden Farmers Incorporated Society held its annual meeting on Saturday evening. Directors whose terms expired were Dave Sonius Tom Hinders and Gilman Hanna. Other directors include Ea Aukes Fred Gerdes Ernest Senne John W Boyken Joe Anderson and Henry Orthel. G L Peterson is manager with Roland Bauman and Milo Holcomb as assistants. A magician Kemmer from Indianola staged a program sponsored by Camera Elevator Company at the Community Hall before a large audience. Refreshments followed at the Farmers Elevator.

The fourteenth annual convention of the Town State Brand Creameries was held Thursday at Mason City. Herman Schutter placed in the cream judging contest while IH. H. Bruns represented Titonka as voting delegate. Chas Thatcher of West Bend and Frank Brunner of Osage were re-elected as directors for three years. Titonka patrons attending included My and Mrs. Miler H. Nelson, Chris Brandt, Henry H. Bruns and son, Holo Boekelman and Mr. and Mrs. Martin Bleich. 4-H members present were Glenn Miller, Donald Budlong, Gerald and Marlyn Bonacker, Dennis Dreesman, Irvin Rippentrop, Herman Schutter and Billy Tjaden. The Woman’s Society of Christian Services will meet Wednesday July 9 with hostesses Mrs. Hart Blakley, Mrs. Herman Blakley, Mrs. Vern Bacon and Mrs. Alice R Boerkholdt. Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Blanchard and children met the Ray Bonacker family of Reinbeck at Hampton Sunday for a picnic supper. Mrs. Carrie Bonacker and Dave, who had been visiting, returned home with the Blanchards.

Cremated body of William Albert Morgan cremated in Sacramento, sent to Alhta for burial, valued 540 dollars, 88 cents express.

Gary Edward Folkerts infant son of Mr and Mrs Eno Folkerts was born at Wohnke hospital Bancroft on June 27 and died at birth. Funeral services were held Friday at the Warner Smith home and burial followed in Ramsey Reformed church cemetery with Rev Calvin Schnucker officiating. Mary Catherine Hentges twelve, daughter of Mr and Mrs D D Hentges of Algona, was injured in a June 22 automobile crash two miles west of Algona. She remained in serious condition at Kossuth hospital after a week, with a fractured skull and partial consciousness. Her father suffered a fractured right leg and her uncle Ortar Hentges sustained back injuries. both are hospitalized and improving.
