Milk by products too high for swine feed
Iowa State College animal husbandryman C C Culbertson says most milk by products used in hog rations are too expensive to replace corn and tankage. Fresh creamery buttermilk is a decent buy if costs stay under 1 1/2 to 2 cents per gallon, but overall feed value declines as more milk is fed. Dry matter content drives value. condensed buttermilk and buttermilk powder show higher relative worth. Hybrid corn's feeding value matches open pollinated varieties of the same maturity.
