Winter stalk chopper helps kill corn borers
Extension entomologist Harold Gunderson says stalk choppers can reduce corn borers by about 50 percent during frozen ground winter months when no snow is present. Disk plots yield similar results, though disks cannot be used on frozen ground. The method won’t wipe out borers but offers a workable reduction.
