Services Held Thursday For Former Lakota Lady

Funeral services for Mrs. Henry Geerdes Sr. were held Thursday afternoon at the Reformed church in Buffalo Center. She was the mother of Mrs. John Steenhard and Henry Geerdes, and the Geerdes family lived on a farm south of Lakota for many years before moving to Buffalo Center.

Three Couples Receive Marriage Licenses Last Week

Three couples obtained licenses from the district court clerk last week. Melbourne Hagedorn of Elmore and Luella Johnson of Ledyard. Paul G. Mil ter of Burt and Julia Doocy of Bancroft. George Ricks and Martha Stroebel, both of Titonka. Anton Peterson of Denmark noted sugar shortages as his brother George received a sack of sugar in Elis Horn Town.

Flames Destroy Yule Tree at Algona Home

A short circuit in wiring sparked a Christmas tree fire at C. S. Kurtz's Algona residence at noon Friday. Kurtz suffered second degree burns while trying to fight the blaze. Firemen arrived after delays from slick streets. downstairs area burned as gifts for Kenny and Jo Ann were destroyed. Kurtz, manager of Swift and Co. Produce Co. plant in Algona.

Death of Lester Small at Wellman on Monday Evening

Lester Small 43 died at his Wellman home Monday night at 10 30 from a heart attack. He was a brother in law of the Graham family and widow Blanch Graham was his wife. Survived by three daughters Donna, Joan, Betty Lou and one grandchild. He worked in a Wellman rock quarry and recently operated a raid maintainer. Funeral plans were made with relatives in Sexton and Wellman.

George Ricks Weds Martha Stroebel at Ramsey Church

George Ricks of Titonka and Martha Stroebel of Titonka were married Friday December 27 in the Ramsey Reformed Church parsonage with Rev. Snuttjer performing the double ring ceremony. Witnesses were Hiram Boeckholt and his wife, and the couple planned a supper at the bride’s parents’ Buffalo Center home. They will reside on the farm northwest of Titonka operated by George and Edgar Ricks.

Wedding at Ledyard Church Unites Coretta Johnson and Arthur Wirtjes

Friday evening at seven o'clock in the Evangelical and Reformed Church of Ledyard a double ring ceremony united Coretta Johnson and Arthur Wirtjes. Rev. Edward Nuss performed the rites. The bride wore a brown suit with brown accessories and was attended by her sister Marvella Johnson. The groom was supported by his cousin Marvin Olthoff. A luncheon followed at the bride’s parents’ home. The couple plans a short honeymoon and will reside on a farm east of Lakota after March 1. Attendees included Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Johnson and Carolyn, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Wirtjes and family, Rev. and Mrs. Snutter, among others.

A local boy was born to Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Show on December 28 at the Mrs. Ray Hansen nursing home in Titonka. Several visits and Christmas gatherings are noted among residents including Anna Paulson of Lakota, the Cooper family, the Welhousens, Ruth Molitor, Minnie Oesterreicher, and Maurice Sunde. A prune incident involving Albert Isebrand is described, and a Christmas Day family gathering occurs in Buffalo Center.
