Mr and Mrs Sever Pannkuk hosted Christmas Day events for family. Sever, teaching grandchildren a trick, was struck by a grandchild and fell, breaking both leg bones at the ankle. Doctors reduced the fracture and X rays confirmed the break. He was returned home by ambulance and faces weeks of recovery and pain.
A full grown hornless wild deer was seen a couple weeks ago on the Larsen farm south of the gravel and near Burt road. It ran southwest across Burlington farm and toward Plum Creek township, clearing fences by two feet, then headed into tall Des Moines river timber. Residents note it is the first such sighting in thirty years in Buffalo Township.
The L. G. Gartner family from Titonka traveled to Galion Ohio for the holidays and back, reporting slow progress due to heavy snow. They spent Monday night in Chicago Heights and described unexpected snow banks as deep as those near Titonka last February.
Congregation thanks donors for a Christmas gift to the parsonage and notes Fireside heater use in cold weather. Church events include Luther League activities, a watch party on Silvester Eve, and an annual congregational meeting set for January 5.
Mr and Mrs Elmer Petersen returned home from Rochester Minnesota last week Wednesday after Elmer underwent removal of a growth on his lip. H J Brandt of Woden reportedly married a Blue Earth Minnesota woman recently. They reside in Woden and are keeping house as a newlywed couple.
Preparing for 1980, William Larsen receives Christmas gifts including a fine fish box and fishing tips. The items arrive as he plans journeys to Minnesota, with expected use over the next fifty years.
John A. Sloper of Buffalo Center former grain agent and Ti tonka mayor visited Titonka Monday. He chatted with local cronies and the Topic office about past events while enjoying a pleasant return to town.
Mr and Mrs Homer Downs entertained his brother and his wife Mr and Mrs J O Downs from Chicago from Friday until Monday evening in a brief local social note.
Attending funeral today are Henry Franzen Ben Franzen Henry Bruns Rev A Kilian Henry Mayland John Osterman Ernest Senne Heiko Stohr and John Junker at Menno 5 D for their former pastor Rev August Wellner time and place noted with list of mourners.
Rev. August Wellner, longtime pastor who served near Titonka and later in Minnesota and Colorado, died suddenly in Loveland, Colorado. He led congregations, oversaw a new church building, and spoke publicly in German and English. Funeral services were held at Menno, South Dakota. The Titonka community expressed sympathy.
Titonia High School basketball fans will see a game against Wesley High next Tuesday evening at the school building. Walter Crissey, visiting from Estherville with his wife, coached the local team Monday and Tuesday and will return Tuesday to watch the contest.
Misses Mae Irene and Louise Sherman, home from Chicago and St Paul, visited their parents east of Wesley and stayed with sister Mrs H A Bruns at Titonka. They were joined by Mrs C J Sherman and Mrs White Davisson of Britt. Mae is private secretary to the Justice of the Minnesota Supreme Court. Irene works as a law firm secretary in St Paul. Louise is employed in the Northern States Power Co. Chicago.
Mr. K. G. Solingon three miles west of Lakota had a foot amputated at the ankle last Saturday. Doctors Kennaflick Crawford and Dr Williams assisted at the home procedure after gangrenous infection threatened life. Solingon, once gravely ill, shows signs of recovery and is expected to continue improving.
Gilbert Nelson leased his meat market building Monday to M. J. Kramer president of Kramer Hatchery Company of Fairmont Minnesota possession to be given February 1st 1930. The hatchery will operate as a branch of the Fairmont concern supplying blood tested and accredited chicks to the region. Larsen Nelson booking orders for next spring's chick deliveries.
Ray Hanna of Humboldt returned from his seventh annual hunting trip with a 1550 pound moose killed in northern Canada. The big game trophy underscored a successful expedition for the farmer.
Mr and Mrs B A Pannkuk hosted relatives and children on Christmas day including Tom Hinders and seven children of Woden A B Pannkuk and daughter Carl Veer and children from Hutchins Herman Sweary family from Britt Henry Butler and two children and E Buss with three boys. The gathering was described as a merry time.

Mr and Mrs I W Lease marked fifty five years of marriage on Saturday December 24. Residents of Wesley for eighteen years they were wed in Nachusa 1874 and moved to Iowa in 1883. They lived on the Will C Dysart farm northeast of Wesley and later resided on several area farms before settling in Wesley. They are parents of five children and have nine grandchildren. Wesley News World reports.
