Improved Bromegrass Varieties Are Coming
Three new bromegrass varieties Lincoln Fisher and Achenbach are now available to seed producers. Trials at Iowa State Nebraska and Kansas stations show superior yields with legumes yielding up to four tons of hay and carrying up to one and a half animal units per acre. For best results sow with alfalfa to avoid sod binding and offset nitrogen depletion.

Keep Hogs Well Bedded To Maximize Pork Yields
Iowa farmers should provide sufficient bedding in hog houses this winter to boost production and profits. Quaife notes wet chilly pens cause pigs to pile up, increasing disease risk and stunting hogs. Use straw, cornstalks, soybean straw, or clover hay as bedding and partition pens to reduce piling. Place baby chick orders two months in advance.
