Income tax filing guidelines update for 2024
The Congress lowers filing thresholds based on gross income. Singles must file if gross income 800 dollars, married couples if 2000 dollars. Exemptions drop to 800 for singles and 2000 for married. 500 Attend Luncheon and Wesley Creamery Meeting
About 500 people attended the Wesley creamery luncheon and meeting in Klenpeter hall on Saturday. The meal was served at 11:30 by directors, employees and wives. The Wesley German Band played during noon. Speakers included Mr. Lamerin of Humboldt on the Dairy Advertising Law and Mr. Falken of Extension Service Iowa State College on democracy and cooperation. The 1940 report showed a 17,000 pound rise in butter churned and a net rockers profit of 948,381 dollars. Butter termitk sold at auction to B. E. Sandera of Sexton as highest bidder. Election of officers elected Hen Schrauth to the board. other members included John Arndorfer, Henry Haverly, Herman Ostersam and Alf Studer. J. G. Shaw is president, John Loebig vice president, Vincent Doughan secretary-treasurer, Paul Engen buttermaker and manager, Dale Jones assistant, Joe Studer locker manager, J. M. Olson cream hauler.

Funeral services were held Sunday at 4 o'clock from the Wesley Methodist church for Leslie L Tryon 82 who died Thursday night in Algona from heart disease. The pastor Rev Wy Tugss officiated and interment was in Evergreen cemetery. A retired farmer he also long served as a clerk at the Hen Felt store in Wesley where he lived. A stepson Kenneth Faxaf of Wesley is listed as survivor. Also noted is a 1940 national crop report showing 2 million bushels of United States red clover seed harvested, nearly double the usual amount.

Algona woman Katherine Adovin in alias Olde Meyers pleaded guilty to larceny of a motor vehicle and received a 10 year sentence at Rockwell Citys women's reformatory. The case followed her theft of a car owned by Harold C. Wesley of Algona near a State Street cafe. The vehicle later ran out of gas north of town as officers closed in.
