The district announces school closed through Tuesday due to a force storm and coal shortage. Officials expect to reopen next Monday with janitor Harms attempting to heat the building with limited coal while bus routes are suspended and teachers depart for their homes.
Card of thanks expresses gratitude for kindness during illness and death of a baby. Mr and Mrs Meinert acknowledge flowers and sympathy. Mr and Mrs C V Pender rast plan a California vacation after brief stop in Watertown South Dakota. Grand daughter Betty Kokesh to stay with Mr and Mrs M Craven during absence.

Frank Meyers, a southeast town farmer set to move to Bode on March 1, will hold a closing out sale on the Missal farm February 19, 1936. Items include 28 head of Guernseys, 11 brood sows, 400 chickens, and assorted machinery. Watch for a full announcement next week.
Despite heavy snowroads worship continues as the Methodist Church plans a sermon titled A Tale Of Two Cities or Sidney Carton Text from John 11 26 and 36. The Mother and Daughter Banquet has been postponed until later in the winter.
The February 3 1936 monthly town council meeting held at 4 80 PM with all members present approved several bills and authorized warrants. The council instructed the clerk to arrange with Mr. Schoyl of the PWA about payments to Thorpe Well Co and Casrla Engineering Co. A $620.48 bill from French Lumber Co. was allowed with an anticipatory warrant. Meeting adjourned.
Frank Moyor of southeast town buys a pool hall and beer parlor at Bode and will take possession on March 1. Moyor plans a closing sale mid February and then will move with his family to make Bode their future home.
Frank D. Fisher, local Chevrolet dealer in Titonka, received a car load of 1936 models last Friday. He will distribute them to purchasers in the area as soon as weather permits.
The sixteen months old child of Mr and Mrs Harry Richloff living four miles north of town died Sunday of pneumonia at Kassuth hospital in Algona after being taken there by its parents Sunday morning. Funeral services were held Tuesday.
Rex Austin agreed last week to become owner of a Jewell Town restaurant located south of Garner and twenty miles north of Ames on the paved road. He will take immediate possession of the property. It is currently reported.
Luverne News reports the town went without mail trains from Tuesday night to Thursday morning last week. No daily papers were issued on Wednesday and only radio news reports reached residents. The isolation mirrored nearby areas.
Mr and Mrs George Beenken celebrated their fifteenth wedding anniversary last Sunday with many relatives and friends invited. Cold weather and bad roads kept attendance smaller than expected but guests enjoyed a splendid dinner and the remainder of the time was spent socially.
A fire destroyed the Johnson farm home near Bancroft killing O M Johnson, his wife 73, and their son Walter Jolson, a WWI veteran. Neighbors alerted fire crews too late to save occupants. bodies found in the ruins Saturday. Leonard Johnson remained jailed in Algona on a minor charge.
A meeting of the National Union of Social Justice is planned at the Bancroft public school house tomorrow at 7:30 PM to organize a local union and elect officers. The group is sponsored by Father Coughlin, the Detroit radio priest.

Dorothy May infant daughter of Mr and Mrs Harry Rickless laid to rest at Lutheran cemetery Wednesday afternoon February 6.

The 8th annual convention of vegetable growers from northern Iowa and southern Minnesota will meet February 20 and 21 at the Forest City Court House. Hosted by the Iowa State Vegetable Growers Association and several local groups, the event features vegetable displays, contests with cash prizes of 115 dollars, a potato peeling contest judged by men, and a seed potato cutting contest open to cross‑state growers.
