Activities of Titonka School for the Week
A school roundup lists agriculture, business law, manual training, English, and music notes. The Studer family observed the 60th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Gregory G. Studer at St. Benedict Catholic Church with an 8 30 mass and vow renewal. Seven living daughters and five surviving children were noted, along with open house in the Wesley community attended by relatives and friends.

Crowd pays last respects to young soldier James Carr
James Carr aged 22, third son of Mr and Mrs Alan Carr, received a memorial service at Ti tonia Methodist church last Sunday. Rev Patterson preached the sermon as a large crowd of Bancroft Post American Legion members and local servicemen attended, paying tribute to a young man who gave his life for his country.

Memorial Service Held For Lt Col Herbert Egeness In Europe
Mrs. John Ludwig and Mrs. Lichter with Rosalie and Mary Lou Haverly traveled to Story City for memorial services honoring Lt. Col. Herbert Egeness lost in Europe. Albert Lichter had written of the air crew guidance he provided before the mission. The group then visited relatives before returning home that evening. Anne Ludwig and her sister left for Bremerton Washington to visit their husbands at a navy shipyard.

Good Telling Braasch shoots eleven crows in one shot
Herbert Braasch of Reinbeck claims he never shot a crow in 30 years yet his recent feat proves he is an expert shot. Crows around Reinbeck were numerous and farmers paid a 10 cent bounty per crow. Braasch killed eleven with a single 16 gauge shot, earning $1.10 total. Nearby Five Island Lake near Emmetsburg voices thunder under the ice with rumblings and booming sounds heard across the lake at night, described as a possible artillery-like effect related to disease or exhaustion.

American Legion Auxiliary monthly meeting reports shipments and aims
The American Legion Auxiliary held a regular meeting at the region hall with fair attendance. A shipment of 6 feather pillows 11 retention pads 80x30 1 pillow slip 18x18 with ten inch overlap in back and 6 wash cloths 12x12 was sent to the U S veterans facility in Knoxville. The next shipment will go to Schick hospital in Clinton. District chairman Mrs Veda Stell Hisworth of Humboldt spoke on the work for service men and the value of visits to hospitals. Mrs Ellsworth urged continual effort and willingness to help all service men and women, noting the importance of daily effort. The resignation of president Ruth M Rosen as she moves to Luverne was announced. After a short business meeting lunch was served by Cleo Nelson and Sadie Denson.

Federal order ends outdoor lights to cut fuel use
A new federal order requires all outdoor electric lighting for advertising to be shut off after midnight today January 31 and remain off until further notice. Exceptions cover hospital, police and fire stations interior lighting is allowed. Theaters may burn a single 60 watt bulb on marquees. Homes and general power use remain permitted, but officials urge conservation to save coal and other fuels. Noncompliance can lead to electric service disconnection.
