The count y hall was crowded Sunday to hear County Agent Hornstetter discuss and answer questions on the hog reduction program. Farmers from Titonka territory were barred entry and redirected around the county for updates. Officials predict a full 100 percent slow down while contracts are signed and reductions implemented.
Huffalo township farmers began signing the corn-hog contracts at 9 o clock Monday morning. The township is divided into districts with the south east school district starting the process and remaining districts to follow daily. Leaders include Jay Budlong Ernest Petersen Frank Raken Al Bert Nelson and Bruno Stecker guiding almost all farmers to join.
Myr. and Mrs. Anton Goetz observed their golden anniversary with a high mass at St. Joseph's Church led by their son Father Fidelis Woetz. The couple married in Mt. Carroll Ill fifty years ago and farmed before moving to Wesley in 1902. They have nine children and open house at the Goetz home drew relatives and friends wishing many more years.
Judge K GU Davidson opened court Monday with a grand jury, a preliminary conference, and lists of trial cases. First joint stock land bank versus Zantner, Weasels versus Gehrtz, Arpke versus Arpke, Miller versus Kain, Lane versus Morgan, Weyarhaduser versus Sullivan, and others were set for Tuesday. Law cases Decker versus Strom and Toole versus Pletch were set for February 12, with state versus Peck for a second jury. The judge then held minor matters and traveled to Hmmetsburg to resume next week.
Nossyth county leads all Iowa towns in corn loans with 1,960 loans mounting to 988,864 dollars. Calhoun, Greene, Pocahontas, Webster, Pottawatomie follow with 1,758, 1,748, 1,028, 1,681, and 1,642 loans respectively. Total lending statewide stood at 34,988,058.49 dollars. Mr and Mrs Hegg Boskelman and Jerry and Anne were visitors in Lakota last Wednesday.
The Community Ol Co of Buffalo Center held their annual election last week and re elected Hd Aukes as president. Directors named include EH Aukes BR Aukes H D Hartman Woh Daum A O Milbrandt John Peldick Wee Limberg Oscar Frandle Nels Swanson and Joseph Larsen.
Last week working hours were cut from thirty to fifteen per week across thirty counties. The order was issued by BE JH Mulock under instruction from the National Administrator Harry Hopkins, reflecting a broader slowdown of New Deal programs.

Rumors circulated last week that Anthony Shaw living northwest of Swea City had received threatening letters demanding money and threatening kidnapping. No arrests had been made by Monday.
A pre-nuptial shower was held last Friday night in Bingham school No. 8 for Miss Frances Ward who resigned her position during the holidays. Patrons attended and spent the evening in a spelling-down contest, ending with a delightful lunch and gifts for Ward. Nearby notes report Drake Estate enthusiasts donating funds in Ringsted, with Hartzell jailed, plus local residents returning from northern Minnesota amid heavy snow.
Carl Carlson born October 16 1875 near Ringstead Denmark came to the United States in 1883 and settled near Wesley Iowa. He married Carrie C Hix in 1912 and had nine children. He died January 25 1934 at age 58 years 3 months 19 days after years living on farms in Portland township and Burt Iowa. Funeral services were held at St John’s Lutheran Burt and burial in Portland township cemetery.
The wedding of Caroline Garman and Adolph Killian took place Tuesday at eight o’clock in St Joseph’s church with Rev A J Wagener officiating. The bride wore white satin and silk with a trailing veil and pink bouquets, bride’s maid Agnes Killian of Minneapolis wore pale pink crepe, and the groom’s party wore black. The couple are children of Mr and Mrs Richard Garman and Mr and Mrs John Killian, Wesley families. A wedding breakfast for close relatives followed at the bride’s home.
Wade Coon Cleo Black and Geo Willey Algona youths were throt before Justice H B White Wednesday on charges of mischief and wilful trespass for attempting to enter Frank Vera's filling station last week They had a hearing and were bound over to the Grand Jury and placed under bonds.
Homer Lawson of Wesley was brought before Mayor John Hutchinson after being tried for intoxication. He began serving a ten day county jail sentence last Saturday.
Justice P A Dawson heard Leonard Johnson of Bancroft and Co D Castleman of Luverne charged with driving an auto while intoxicated. Both were held to the Grand Jury under bonds.
Sid J. Backus, Algona postmaster, remained in critical condition Monday afternoon with death expected at any time. His illness drew sorrow from friends across the county as authorities shared the dire prognosis.
The Luthor League met Sunday evening led by Miss Anna Stecker with Henry Stecker listed as leader for the next gathering. The Tacied Aid plans a Thursday afternoon 8 o clock meeting hosted by Mrs. Win Cullies and Mrs. Frank Rakaw with a lunch invitation.
More than two hundred corn hog contracts were signed across the county by last Saturday with rapid progress and little opposition. Names of signers were not reported to headquarters by Monday afternoon.
Marriage licenses issued by Clerk EB J. McEvoy during the past week went to Louis BE Wingert and Leona Leonhard of Wesley, Robert W. Stearns of Estherville and Ida B. Paterson of Algona, Martin Huantle of Fenton and Delphine Meier of Whittemore, Francis Suer of Fort Dodge and Margaret Huabsch of Humboldt.
Mid-Continent station owner Johnny Bleich told Topic office that Iowa's proposed income tax would force separate itemized tax records on every sale. He warned retailers including newspapers would need new books, with monthly tax remittances, and he plans to hire no bookkeeper before April 1.
Henry Franzen, a town resident who retired, returned to labor on a farm near Woden. He invested 9,500 tite to drain the land, supervised a new 26x28 two story residence with porch and basement, and will occupy the home with a tenant by March 1, continuing busy work on the property.
Bonsetter reports at the State House on January 26 1934 that bills HF 3 HF 58 and SF 42 seek an old age pension but show little support. He details tax revision moves HF 1 and the Farm Bureau bill including corporation net income and retail sales taxes and notes limited favorable committee action and overall lukewarm sentiment. Wisconsin has higher rates but not on lower brackets.

House Fire No. 1 expected to raise $20,000,000. combined with spending cuts could cut property taxes about 40 percent. Algona fire at C. W. Merck home occurred Sunday in strong wind. roof and bathroom damage about $160. insured with H. N. Kruse’s company.
Over a hundred students in the Algona vicinity will take the county wide examinations. The tests will be spread across all town and consolidated districts with half scheduled this coming Friday and the remaining on May 4th and 8th. Those earning passing certificates may pursue a four year high school course either at their home school or have tuition paid at another high school.
Titonka Co-Operative Creamery Company held its regular stockholders meeting at the IOOF hall last Saturday afternoon to elect officers and conduct business. Re-elected directors include Henry H. Bruns and M. H. Larsen. EB Hansen secretary. Wm Boyken treasurer. G. D. Welhausen was reappointed president. Secretary’s report shows business up about 12,000 from 1932, total near 86,000. Butter price averaged 23 cents. Officers for the year: G. D. Welhausen president, B. P. Hansen secretary, Martin Bleich buttermaker, Horace Schenck assistant buttermaker. board members: G. D. The CWA furnishes employment in the county to 824 men and 17 women besides QL on special work. Hours were cut this week to 15 per week.
Mr. Harry Bartelt brought three truckloads of stock and farm implements from Grimes Iowa last week and will begin farming on a farm east of Titonka March 1.
