Tax Saving Features In New Farm Law
The Agricultural Law Center outlines 1955 tax rules for farm property sales. Holdings for farm use over six months and livestock over 12 months qualify for capital gain treatment with partial taxation of gains and full deduction of losses. Involuntary conversions and various capital assets receive favorable treatment, and careful planning across years can offset losses against gains. Tax planning with attorneys and tax advisers is urged before year end.

Good ice and strong fishing on Iowa lakes in December
Ice fishermen in the great lakes region report thick ice with Spirit Lake about 14 inches and West Okoboji around 10 inches. Early December brought excellent angling with limits of walleyes and yellow perch, pike large, perch sizable, using jigged metal flies, minnows, and chubs. Shacks are common but not essential, as many veterans fish through 10 inch holes. Mistletoe remains a festive emblem of purity and goodwill with ancient roots.
