Youngs were Sunday guests at Van Hansens while the Dean Christmas program is set for Sunday night. Numerous meetings, visits, and family gatherings occur across Algona and nearby towns with residents attending church events, dining at homes, and traveling to Mason City, Des Moines, Forest City, and Crystal Lake.
The M. BE Ladies Aid held its annual supper and bazaar at the community hall Wednesday evening and a large attendance enjoyed the event. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Wentworth of Thompson arrived to spend the winter with Mrs. Merle Gibson, and Mr. Wentworth will work at the Gibson off station. Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Ortho hosted three tables of cards Thursday evening in honor of Mrs. Harry Quinn and J. Heltm birthdays, with refreshments served.
Louis Thaves, a business man in Algona, and many locals including Arlene Heetland, Catherine Powers, Mia Hilmer Hanson and Shirley, and Wanda Heetland with chicken pox are noted as social visitors and hostesses. Reports mention several families visiting in Ledyard, Buffalo Center, Swea City, Mason City, and Fort Dodge, with various illness updates and a funeral in Swea City.
tL J Needham reports poor health following an accident two months ago en route to Sibley from Iowa City. Knee broken and lip dislocated, in a cast since. Raymond Winter drove to Mason City to visit Dale Mallethare at college and checked on Mrs M H Winter in Mercy hospital who is improving after sickness. Mrs Winter recently gave birth to a daughter two weeks ago.
Christmas morning services at Wesley Church are set for 6 8 8 and 10 oclock. Mrs J J Meurer hosted her bridge club. Measles affect several local families but mildly. Miss Marian Arndorfer left for music studies in Iowa Falls. The Campfire girls held a Christmas party at the Legion rooms. The joint Legion and Auxiliary meeting heard several speakers. The next gathering is planned for Thowka in January.
