Star of Bethlehem astronomy debate in Bible history
The article surveys historical theories about the Star of Bethlehem from Matthew’s gospel. It cites Kepler and Proctor on planetary conjunctions, Halley’s comet, and the idea of a new star or nova, weighing astronomical events against the Bethlehem birth narrative. It notes reliance on astrologers and wise men from the East and discusses how later scholars varied in interpretation.
