Arlene Durning Weds Louis Loehig at Britt Church

Arlene Durning daughter of James and Mrs Durnin of Hutchins wed Louis J Loehig son of the late Mr and Mrs N Loehig of Weeley on November 20 at St Patrick Catholic Church in Britt with Rev J P Quir officiating. Miss Ardis Durnin and Ben Studer Jr. attended. A wedding dinner followed at the bride’s home. The bride, a Britt High School graduate, has taught in Hancock and Kossuth counties. The groom studied at St Josephs in Wesley and will work for Watkins Products Co.

Horse causes Model A crash near Sibley

A Model A Ford driven by Glenn Chambers was upset when a horse charged from a farm yard into the road near Sibley. Chambers was injured, the horse died, and the incident gave a dramatic snapshot of rural life colliding with modern machinery.

Handel's Messiah Set for Algona Sunday Service

Algona hosts the third annual Handel's Messiah performance next Sunday December 10 at 3 30 p m as a vesper service in the high school auditorium. Soloists include Esther Smith Corwith Doris Genrich Livermore Erna Baars Burt and A Be Michel Algona with G D Schaap Algona tenor and J W Miller Corwith bass. Bel Cantian music club sponsors the community project with a chorus of O vari es under J Worth Miller Carwith, accompanied by Sylvia Gunn pianist and a string ensemble. Tree felling accident injures man near Madjeon

Last week Ray Maiden, near Madjeon, attempted to fell a tree. The trunk fell unexpectedly, trapping him and causing injuries. He was unable to escape and suffered significant harm from the accident.

Arvington College Student Injured at Home

Verle Patterson, 21, son of Mr and Mrs Jewell Patterson, who lived near Algona, suffered a forehead wound while helping on his father's farm. A nail pierced his head when brushing a spike from a crib. He received immediate medical care and was expected to resume studies at Town State College in Ames.

Charlotte Smith Weds Bill Philips in Tracy Minnesota

The marriage of Bill Phillips and Charlotte Smith was announced in Woden. The ceremony occurred Saturday, November 26, in Tracy, Minnesota. Witnesses were Mr. and Mrs. Walter Pee, the bridegroom’s brother and sister. The couple plan to live in their current home.

Good Rain On Thanksgiving Eve Report

Last Thursday evening a good rain of about a half inch fell in the area, the first substantial moisture in months and much needed. Local roads graded earlier may face spring trouble, with sections from Woden to Crystal Lake and east of Crystal Lake shown in poor shape after the rain.

Grant township 4-H girls club elected Nonna Selberg president with Evelyn Colwell as vice president and Speicher secretary. Marion Mino treasurer and Olsie Selberg historian lead the organizing meeting with Reuben Lutter and Arden Reynolds as committee heads. Eleven active clubs exist in Kossuth county and a planning session is set for Saturday to map the year’s program. Ruth Seaton Hicks, county home demonstration agent, announced a Hebron township club will form next Saturday at June Home to elect officers and set the year’s plan.
