The Titonka school outlines December events and features sports results. Tyke Indians beat Ledyard 36 27 with Boyken 18 Ward 15. Titonka girls lose 26 19 to Ledyard. Burt and Wesley games noted, hot lunches served, and varied freshman to senior updates across classes.
Mr and Mrs W E Grover observed their golden wedding anniversary on Tuesday November 27 with more than 100 guests. Four original wedding attendees were present along with several other couples who had also celebrated their own golden anniversaries. Their two children Zada Smith of Milwaukee and Harold at home visited from Saturday to Tuesday. Out of town guests came from Des Moines Burt and Algona among others. Lunch was served to the guests.
Iowa health officials forecast lower pneumonia deaths this year barring major outbreaks. Eight months saw 615 provisional pneumonia deaths, likely to rise but not reach 1944’s 731 and far below that year’s 1024 total. Officials urged prompt care and personal health measures, noting sulfa drugs aid but early treatment remains crucial.
Minert B. Pannkuk of German Valley Illinois sends a money order for another year of The Topic. He notes a short year for corn due to wet cold weather, with some corn already harvested before snow and much left to pick.
Adam Whiley and Rita Ricke with Jerry went to Des Moines on Thursday for a checkup at the Blank Memorial Hospital where polio treatment occurred weeks ago. He is making satisfactory recovery. Mrs Kunz and Billy joined them and stayed at Ann Kunz's home over the weekend.
Mr. and Mrs. William Boyken host open house Sunday from 2 to 6 PM and 7 PM in honor of their son and his wife Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Boyken. The event invites relatives and friends to celebrate the marriage and bring good wishes.

Due to church work there will be no Divine Service or Sunday School this Sunday. Donations for European war relief accepted through Sunday Dec 9. Confirmation class meets Saturday at 9. Sunday School re hearing Christmas program Saturday at 1 15. Choir rehearse Dec 12 at 7 30. Women’s Missionary Society meets Dec 13 at 7 30. Services resume Sunday Dec 16 with special offerings for Lord's Kingdom work and gifts for the Christmas box due by Dec 9 at the homes of MacAnna Adke or Mrs Edward Sathoff.
Burt residents faced a foxes raid on J. P. Crunkhill farm after a jail break by two foxes. They killed ten hens before reinforcements shot one intruder. A third fox was killed by Bernard Leeper after it had slain six chickens. Remaining foxes were at large as guards kept watch on poultry.
Whittemore area reports farmer Schroeder badly bruised after being mauled by a bull in the barnyard. His daughter, witnessing the attack, used a rock and a board to distract and pull him to safety at the gate before getting him to Emmetsburg hospital. He sustained severe bruises but no broken bones. Mr Schroeder is the father of Mrs. Harry Schmeling of Whittemore.
Dreyer of Iowa City answered a call from his wife after a dog was spotted in a pond. He discovered a red fox in the water, which he promptly removed and killed.
United Service Women plan a December meeting at John Pink home with hostesses Mrs Ray Hansen and Mrs Ed Zwiefel. They will prepare and ship gifts for mothers of disabled veterans unable to leave hospitals, seek donations of gifts and playing cards, and fund the telephone relief for overseas arrivals. The group reports November earnings from forget-me-nots and subscriptions and sets a quota of comforts slippers and washcloths for the month.
Harold Pruisman and Donna Bell Erickson married November 23 in Clarion with Justice of the Peace Richards officiating. The bride wore aqua wool and wine accessories. attendants were both families’ members. A wedding dinner followed at the bride’s home. The couple will reside in Lakota and later farm near Sibley.
Donald H. James, Pastor, reports morning service at 11 and Sunday School at 10. Youth Fellowship meets at 6:46, Evening Service at 7:45, choir practice Wednesday. Senior Youth Fellowship follows choir. Pastor thanks donors for a reception and gifts. A building fund committee nominating conference is scheduled for Monday, Dec 10 at 8. Open to all 18+, subject to district superintendent and quarterly conference approval.
The Valley Victory Club met on Saturday November 17 at Velida Bruns home with seven members present. Plans were set for the Christmas party and a musical game followed by lunch. The next meeting will be hosted by Betty Ann Sonnenberg at her home.
Margaret Haverly daughter of Mr and Mrs Henry Haverly wed Harl J Thies at Holy Angel church St Cloud Minnesota on Thursday November 29. She is an army nurse lieutenant recently returned from twenty months in the European war zone and to be discharged in February. Thies is from St Cloud and served as a sergeant landing in the states November 1 and has been discharged.

Mr and Mrs Vernon Leidtke of Adel arrive home following a 26 week season performing at venues across New York Massachusetts Rhode Island New Hampshire Maine Pennsylvania North and South Carolina and Louisiana Their act titled Flirtation In the Air drew crowds at multiple cities and theaters nationwide.
Local American Legion Auxiliary held its monthly meeting at the Legion hall with strong attendance. The group arranged shipments to the Department Supply shelf and various veterans facilities, including comfort items, clothing, toiletries, and craft materials, to be sent on December 10 under the Give to the Yanks Who Gave program.
The Titania Public Library along with the Woman's club and Federated club sponsors a book drive from December 3 to December 12. Donations may be left at the library on weekend afternoons or at Beed Hardware. They seek English language novels by popular authors and classics familiar to students, excluding magazines, Bibles, textbooks, dictionaries, encyclopedias, political works, and foreign translations to aid in replenishing libraries looted by the Nazis.
Members of the Service People Workers club met at the Denton home Tuesday afternoon with Amy Fisher and Joan Johnson as co hostesses. They plan a Gift for Yanks Who Gave project and will donate carpet rag balls made from torn rags. Members received certificates of appreciation from the disabled American veterans for selling forget me nots. The December meeting is set for December 14 at the Legion hall with LaVonne and Glenda McColley hosting.
