A Busy Week of Visits and Local News at Titonka
Local residents from Buffalo Center and nearby towns visit relatives in Titonka. Deputy Sheriff Grand Sampson attends to business in Atgona. Many residents travel to Algona, Swea City, and Thompson for errands, social calls, or medical and church activities. A bridge of community life unfolds through visits, weddings, and minor accidents.
Letters from early settlers praise growing wheat and climate
The letter from James G. Wit and A. Kenyon from north Dakota describes settlers moving east to own homes, noting crops of wheat, corn, barley and flax, and favorable climate with mountains to the south and west. It mentions a gold medal for wheat, strong health, and calls for more eastern renters to become owners. It also reports a forgery charge against Senator Kenyon’s associate and political commentary from local newspapers on Bull Moose participation.
