Hog market steady outlook from Kossuth Extension
Extension Economist Francis Kutish of Iowa State University forecasts a relatively steady hog market this fall and winter. He expects limited weakness and notes December February litters rose 16 percent, with March May up 5 percent, signaling larger marketings later year but not a repeat of earlier rises. Slaughter during the weekend of July 25 was 25 percent higher than a year ago, yet seasonal pork demand and reduced packer storage may offset rising sales.
