Defense economy strained by wartime lag and legal red tape
The piece notes limited German efficiency, only 700 light tanks ordered, Gerrand rifle production at 600 daily but faulted in design. June July contracts total $1.26 billion, mainly naval. army orders about $200 million. Select First Quality Peaches for Canning
Mrs. Ruth Seaton explains that quality peaches make good canned fruit and that canning does not improve fruit quality. Choose firm peaches without bruises or brown spots, avoid green background color, and heat in syrup 3 to 6 minutes before packing. Water bath processing is preferred over oven canning to prevent browning and loss of juice.
