Real test for Iowa lamb feeders this year says Kutish
Francis Kutish of Iowa State College notes feeding efficiency and limiting death losses will be crucial as feed costs rise and margins shrink. Lamb crops are down 11 percent from last year, the smallest since 1925, yet fat lambs and demand may remain strong. Financing corn shortages and wage conditions affect fat lamb demand next winter. Lambs offer high quality roughage use and faster turnover, finishing in about 90 days.
