Heavy rainfall across North Kossuth county and the eastern territory last Friday and Saturday left fields waterlogged. Reports range four to nine inches in 30 to 36 hours with shocks still standing in water and ponds covering up to ten acres. Despite flood effects corn shows rapid growth and hay crops thrive while southern Iowa suffers drought.

Reformed Church Notes July Celebration at Ramsey
With July ending the present pastor completes six years in the community. He preached his first sermon July 24, 1932, at Ramsey church and last week’s observance marked the anniversary. The pastor and family will vacation at Spirit Lake east shore, Orleans, Iowa. Summer meetings will occur. Sunday School held August 7 and 14 with no evening services until August 28 when local boys take the service. Mission festival set for August 30 with Rev. F. Reeverts and Rev. L. Brunsting as speakers.

New 4-H Building Under Construction at Fair Grounds
Construction started on a new 4-H girls building at the Kossuth county fair grounds. It is a one story 48 by 80 frame structure with a concrete floor and a rear stage with dressing rooms. Side wall booths can be resized, costing just over a thousand dollars. The old 4-H boys building will be remodeled with an 18 foot addition. About 60 head of calves can be housed. Interior floral hall will be redecorated before the September fair. Grounds have been cleaned and all other buildings painted. Completion aimed for fair time.

Bancroft Man Sentenced For Liquor Charge
Bancroft resident Bancroft Slyveeter Nemmears appeared before Judge George A Heald in Spencer on Saturday and received a four month jail term for illegal possession of intoxicating liquors. He was bound over to the grand jury after attempting to give his brother N J Nemmers and Albert Hopking a bottle of all exaed alcohol in the courthouse during questioning of two others for stealing chickens. The two other defendants were bound over to the grand jury with bonds of 1600 each and were expected to plead guilty before Judge Heald this Tuesday.

Benefits Game Raised 300 For Injured Algona Youth
About 300 was collected at a Monday night benefit baseball game in Algona for Whitman, a 19 year old who lost an arm in a recent auto crash. Eight teams from North Kossuth League played, with grounds and lights donated. All proceeds, including admissions from players and umpires, went to Whitman as he spoke briefly to the crowd.

Bridges on Milwaukee Railroad Washed Out Near Algona
Heavy weekend rain near Algona washed two Milwaukee Railroad bridges delaying an eastbound train about four and a half hours. Rainfall official at Algona was 2.70 inches, with more recording west of town. Washouts at Whittemore and west of there disrupted track, crews from Spencer and Mason City repaired the grade and culverts. The eastbound train reached Algona by 7:57 pm and arrived about 2:00 am. Fields flooded, oats damaged, and threshing delayed for days.
