Farm Outlook Sees Modest Egg Price Swings in 1959 Farm Year
Farm Economist Tom Rackham of Iowa State College says egg prices may show little volatility until late in the season. He notes a 1953 late flock buildup extends production into fall, tempering declines this year, and that rising scale operations stabilize year to year output. He cites February plans to buy fewer hatch eggs but more sexed pullets, possibly keeping the 1959 laying flock near 1958 levels. regional shifts show fewer replacements in East and West North Central areas, with other regions predicting slight buildups amid lower prices and higher feed costs.
