DDT Believed Unsafe for Dairy and Beef Cattle Use

State entomologist H M Harris warns against using DDT on dairy cattle or in dairy barns and on beef cattle slated for slaughter within 30 days. He notes DDT residues can appear in milk fat and meat, risking human exposure, and recommends methoxychlor as a safer alternative that does not appear in milk or fat. Methoxychlor is effective, available, and applied like DDT, though more costly.
